As some of you know, I am personally a 32 year survivor of testicular cancer diagnosed in 1975. I was NOT supposed to survive! I was given a 50% 2-year survival and a less the 10% 5-year survival prognosis. I beat those huge odds against me and am one of a very few who survived that era of treatments. I remained silent for 30 years about my experiences all those years ago. Approximately 2 years ago I was facing the 30th anniversary of my diagnosis, my 50th birthday (yes I was 20 when diagnosed) and my sons were the age I was when diagnosed. This all brought me to a very retrospective point in life and I researched my medical history and sat down and wrote my survival story (you can read my "survival story" online at the CAC website). I began looking for ways to "give back" and became involved with the Lance Armstrong Foundation and was invited and attended the inaugural LiveSTRONG Survivors Summit last October. I am also participating as a delegate to "LiveSTRONG Day" in Washington, DC May 14 - 16th, whereby I will meet personally with our Senators and Congressmen to discuss cancer and survivorship issues today. After the summit in Austin, TX last October, I co-founded Cancer Advocates Coalition of which I am currently the Chairman and have members from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
In an effort to begin some fundraising for this incredible event, I approached the NHRA and Gold's to host and run this benefit tournament and received overwhelming response from both!
Now all I need are players!!
This is a "non-sanctioned" event so no USAR membership is required.
